About Western Logistics
From its modest origins in 1990, Western Logistics has become Canada's foremost transporter of new office furniture. We have held firmly to our commitment to serve a narrow niche in transportation. While much has changed over the years since 1990, we are resolute in maintaining this adherence to the discipline of serving the sophisticated office furniture industry, and have been rewarded with great support as a result.
We're still a young company, and the constant change of logistics practices by the industry leaders keeps testing our ability to adapt our services to changing realities. We relish this challenge. Now that we have established coast-to-coast coverage of Canada, and substantial US services around the Great Lakes area from our base in West Michigan, our future growth will focus on three main areas of corporate development, all without changing any essential characteristic of our services.
- Regional Development, by which we mean saturation coverage of our territories. In 2007-08, we have implemented this in the Great Lakes area of the US, and throughout Atlantic Canada, both extensive and demanding markets to serve well. This means that we're giving far better service into secondary and tertiary areas than before. To do so, we're using more specialized equipment, more straight trucks and short trailer-pups with power gates, and providing a lot of intra-regional services.
- US Services and Locations will be greatly expanded over the next decade, including new territorial coverage and terminal locations in much the same progression and methodology that we followed in developing across Canada. For the next few years, we seek to become the LTL carrier of choice in the eight states for the industry we serve, thus forming a strong platform for future growth beyond those eight states in years to come.
- Business Electronics Logistics. We view this huge industry as a perfect complement to business furniture, requiring many of the same skill-sets, equipment, and methods that we exercise with office furniture, especially in regional distribution. At the present time, Western Logistics is testing this in a hard-to-serve market, the four provinces of Atlantic Canada, with great success and clear approbation of the distributors for leading product brands, even at this early stage. This intense apprenticeship will continue until the end of 2008 to develop competency, and the service offerings will then be gradually extended into other regions, starting with Québec, preceded by extensive training.
Having survived the tragedy, challenges, and turbulence of the '00s to date, we face the future with great confidence and joy at expanding our scope to win new friends and to excel in new markets which have not yet experienced the addictive nature of our special level of service competence. While we will never strive to be huge, growth is vital to our formula, and our operating teams will continue to grow at a healthy clip of 20% per annum, and never stop trying to be "… the unCommon Carrier."
